They mostly logged in once and then never again. The barriers to entry are high - not just technical (learning something new) but social (they don't know enough interesting people on the platform already).

I do like Friendica, but it is frustrating to use. Too much doesn't work as it should. Hubzilla does look interesting - that will likely be the next place I look - but it also looks even more complicated and intimidating to an average user.
David Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05076700641480265003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15512328.post-4830682277669588532019-02-15T20:43:56.199+00:002019-02-15T20:43:56.199+00:00Thanks David!
I was thinking more than "just ...Thanks David!
I was thinking more than "just MY family network", but I dreamt about setting up a service, chat and social network (microblogging, discussions, events) for my family and my wife, then her family and her brother in law, then his family etc etc.: and maybe this way of extending a sibblings network may have the same effect than friends of friends of friends, that made FB grow up... ;)
So a well established product like WP might be limited: BuddyPress (WordPress social network plugin) looked correct thought, I need to compare again WP+BP versus Friendica/Diaspora/Hubzilla/... (as for security and scalability, Hubzilla ZOT basis, fediverse pods, and other open social characteristics look more robust than WP, which is known for being not secure...)
And Hubzilla looked extensible enough to add much more use case to some groups like families, who maybe want to manage their daily life (expenses, etc.) inside the same all-in-one tool. (I even though about Odoo, ex OpenERP, as a small groups management tool...

(ps: I've spent money trying to built such a tool: check out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=plus.wedo.village )

Looking for advices... thanks again, and sorry to take a few minutes of your time.

I look forward your follow-up article ;)Nicolas Hugodothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03100790636128473827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15512328.post-88322586140403013592019-02-15T11:20:22.325+00:002019-02-15T11:20:22.325+00:00@Nicolas
Many thanks for your message.
I am worki...@Nicolas
Many thanks for your message.

I am working on a follow-up post about Friendica. However, I do not think that Friendica would meet your needs.

For a private, family site, you don't need the federation that Friendica provides. You would do better to take an established, well-maintained, self-hosted product that provides social features within a closed user group. There are many of them, including some that can be installed automatically and for free with certain hosting packages.

Even WordPress has plugins that will allow it to be used as a private social network. WordPress has the advantages of a huge support base, along with regular automated updates.David Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05076700641480265003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15512328.post-1875730321173198612019-02-10T18:57:26.272+00:002019-02-10T18:57:26.272+00:00Hello there,

I'm looking for a system for my family, and family of family related (family of my wife, etc.), mobile first, and may pay a little someone to help me setup this and add functionnalities (and polish some... if needed): any advises for a system vs all others, and contact please?
